The therapist generally starts by working your back, using various massage strokes that include effleurage, kneading, friction, stretching and tapping.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but with more pressure on specific areas in need of releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Walking is really a technique of deep tissue massage therapy which allows the therapist to apply a heavier pressure for slightly longer periods where it is needed.  Walking is typically performed on the upper and lower back, and also the upper leg areas.
